Knitters are usually nice, giving people. There are so many ways to help others through knitting – knitted garments to charities, etc.
There are a number of places where one can purchase yarn, with a portion of the proceeds going to a charity.
The Gear That Gives has stores for several causes: fighting Hunger, funding mamograms, funding health services for children, promoting literacy, protecting rainforests, feeding rescued animals.
All you have to do is click on the above link, and then do a search for "yarn". I did that and found: recycled silk yarn, alpaca yarn (3 skeins), recycled silk and wool yarn, and homespun yarn. All of these yarn items showed up in each cause’s site. So you can choose the cause you want to support and buy those items from them. Sweet!
I have purchased things, mainly jewelry and fabulous, huge, canvas tote bags from several of these stores. They were all high-quality items, nicely packaged and I felt they were reasonably priced. Good stuff that helps other people – can’t go wrong. Be sure to check out their fab jewelry too.
You might also want to start making a daily habit of clicking on their links. Visits mean funding for these causes. It isn’t a scam either.
Now it is off to do some scurrying around – shopping and other chores.
